Describe specific tools available in Layer Editor for Site Layers.

Overview:

Site Layers are a common type of layer, normally used when grid soil sampling.  Specific points are marked on the layer and are typically given SampleID's to label the points.  These layers can then be sent to our MAP app to sample those points, or used to mark locations in a field.

Process:

To create a Site layer, follow the process to create a new layer, much like all other layers.  

Typically for Site Layers, used for Soil Tests, when originally created will need the Attribute "SampleID" with the Data Use = Nominal

1. Select the field you want to create the layer for; and either right click on the field or go to Layers > Create New Layer > Site Layer.
2. For Properties create a name, and Layer Type for this type of layer is normally Soil Test, but can be what you would like.                                            
3. Attributes tab you will Add Attribute, Name=SampleID, Data Use = Nominal to create an attribute that will mark each point with a number.                                         
4. Click OK and the Site Layer is created.

Answer:

Select your Site type layer in the domain tree, and select Layers > Layer Editor.  The editor tool will open and you will see some tools specifically designed for a Site Type Layer.  Those tools are described below:

GRID TOOLS:

Show Grid - click on this icon to show the grid on the map, it will be centered on the field the layer is under.  The size of the grid will display in layer editor, default will be the LAST size used.  For Reference 2.5 acre square grid is 330 x 330.  Refresh grid to show new grid.

Move Grid - once grid is shown on the map, click on this icon to activate moving the grid.  Click and drag on the directonal arrows to move the grid, the curved arrows (bottom right) to rotate the grid, and the diagonal arrows to make the grid outline larger or smaller (doesn't change the size of each square, just the outline).

Set Numbering Pattern  - once you have the grid positioned the way you prefer, click on this icon to set the numbering.  Click on one of the 4 corners of the grid where you will start numbering, then drag to make a line in the direction you will go on the map.  You will then have two options.

Clear Numbering Pattern - if you made an error in setting the pattern or don't like the direction, click this icon to clear the pattern and repeat the process to set numbering pattern.   OR:

Snap Grid - Click on this icon when you have the grid positioned the way you like and the numbering pattern.

Note:  After Snapping the Grid and you don't like how it was done, you can always click "Undo" to start the process all over again.

SITE Tools:

New Site  - Click icon, then point the crosshair to a point on the map where you would like a site added.  Manually create data  for that point.

Move Site - select site in grid or on the map, then click the icon to move site.  Drag point on the map to new location and click when set.

Delete Site - select site in grid or on map, then click on the icon to delete the site.  If incorrect site you may click the "Undo" to bring the site back.
