Using Multi-Year Yield Analysis
Overview:
Use of the Multi-Year Yield Analysis (MYYA) tool is an easy way to classify multiple years of yield into different categories of yield ranges based on a "normalized" yield. Normalized yield works with several different crops to provide a percentage rating equal across all types of crops. 100% equals the field average.
Once analysis is complete you will have several options to view the data and save for future use.
Requirements:
- Access to AgStudio
- Fields with valid boundaries.
- it is preferred to have multiple years of harvest data for selected field
Process:
- Select field in domain tree to run a MYYA. Crop year is dependent on years to be included with analysis. Current crop year will include all harvest field ops in selected field.
- Go to Tools > MYYA
- Click Load
on the Multi-Year Yield Analysis tool to load. MYYA will search for all valid harvest field ops and create a list that shows Year, Crop, Coverage, Yield Average, and unit.
- With the "View Raw"
icon activated, you can click through the different years to view the different yield maps. From there you can decide to keep or remove that crop year's results in the analysis. NOTE: You may also choose to de-select a field with a low % coverage.
- To remove fields from being used in the MYYA, simply uncheck the box to remove it from being analyzed.
- It is suggested to leave the Analysis parameters at default until the initial analysis is done, once the data is examined, you can then re-define the parameters and Re-Run MYYA. Parameters will usually be set to the numbers that were last run.
- Once the initial analysis is complete, you can scan thru the different data to help you hone in on your preferred parameters and provide a more desired MYYA.
- View Surface
- Activate to select a crop year in the grid and view the surfaced map of the harvest map. This is a more smoothed out version of the harvest map.
- View Variance
- Activate this icon to view the variability across the field. Variability in this sense is in regards to the difference to the normalized yield. Note the highest amount of variability for use in the parameters.
NOTE: if you have less than 3 years of harvest data you will receive a warning that there will be little to no variance.
- Average
- Activate this icon to view a map of the normalized yield. Please note the yields and numbers for use in the parameters.
- Category
- Activate this icon to view the current MYYA map with the categorized areas: Above, Average, Below, and Variable (it would be ideal in most circumstances to minimize the area that is Variable).
- Save
- If you like how the Category map looks, click on this icon to save the analysis as layers. You can save the surface data as well as the Category map.
- View Surface
- If you do NOT like how the Category map looks you may Re-Run the analysis after editing the parameters. You may increase or decrease the Stability cutoff (which is the amount of variance accepted), and adjusting the Above and Below parameters to regroup your Above, Average, and Below. Simply edit the values in your parameters and the Category Map will adjust automatically.
- Once the desired parameters have been input and the desired Category map has been produced, you can Save the Map.
- Save as a Surface Layer - saves the analysis (yield data, normalized yield, variance, etc) as a surface layer. Enter desired layer name.
- Save MYYA Category as Management Zone - saves the Category map as a region layer to use as a Management zone.
