How do I import Boundaries?

Requirements:

• A boundary shapefile that contains all elements (dbf, .mcd, .prj, .shp, and .shx).
• Other boundary files that AgStudio supports are .kml and .iby.

Answer:

Use the Import Boundaries tool found on the Setup menu. To import shapefile boundaries with Boundary Import, the shapefile field boundaries must contain two attributes:

• FieldName which is the attribute containing the field name, and
• FarmName which is the attribute containing the name of the farm the field belongs to.

If these attributes are present you can use our Import Boundaries tool to add these fields to your Domain.

1. On the Menu bar, go to Setup > Import Boundaries and select.
2. This will bring up the import tool.  On the left hand side you can add a folder to import from (if you have multiple fields) or add a file to individually select your shapefiles.
3. Once you select the shapefiles, attributes should populate on the right hand side.  Under the Source column, you will find the attributes of YOUR shapefile, the two attributes you will need to locate are the ones that have your field name and farm name.
4. On those two attributes under the "Map To" column, click on the dropdown beside "Do Not Copy" and select the appropriate attribute.  FieldName for your field name attribute and FarmName for you farm name attribute.  **NOTE**  all other attributes are optional and do not need to be selected.
5. After those are matched up, click "Upload" and your boundaries will be uploaded in the same farm/field structure from where you downloaded them from.

If those attributes are not present, you may import boundaries on a field-by-field basis using the Boundary Editor found on the Map Toolbar.  You will need to have the field named under the Resource tree.  (if it has no boundary...it should be gray)

• First select the field in which you want to import the boundary.

1. Once you have that field selected, on the toolbar above the map, select Editor > Boundary Editor. 
2. That will expand the map toolbar, select the Import tool (yellow barrel with an arrow). 
3. You will then locate the shapefile for the field you are importing.  Find the .shp file and click open.  
4. The boundary will then show up on the map.  Verify the boundary looks okay.  If okay, click "Save" on the toolbar and the boundary is saved and the gray field should now become green. 
5. Close out of the Boundary editor when complete.

**Note**  Once a new field with a valid boundary has been created, AgStudio will then create a Soil Types layer for that particular field boundary.
